After a thorough search on Janet Webb, and after I’d discussed Molly’s pathology report with Elijah and Nadia, I felt we had all the information we needed and were ready to pay Janet a visit. It turned out, unlike Kenneth and Molly, Janet took her education incredibly seriously and was now doing a master’s degree in English Literary Research. She was also renting some form of shared university accommodation somewhere in the city.

Neither Elijah nor Nadia were surprised at the information on the pathology report. We were all certain the body was that of Molly’s, but, like me, they were both curious as to why the body had been moved.

I just hoped we would soon be finding that out.

“This information is good, you two,” I said happily. “Janet’s clearly still local, which will make giving her a visit much easier, and she still has connections to the uni, which could be a help to us.”

Nadia and Elijah both looked pleased with themselves.

“I think we need to visit her right away,” I continued. “The quicker we can get things rolling, the more likely it is we can prevent more deaths. We don’t know what a visit to Janet will lead to. It could easily lead to nothing, but the sooner we can find out, the better.”

“Agreed, sir,” Nadia said.

“Absolutely,” Elijah said keenly.

I looked between them both, unsure who to take, but quickly decided I needed to go about it fairly. Nadia had been more involved in the outings from the office, so it was only right Elijah joined me to meet Janet.

“Smith, are you happy to come with me?” I asked.

Elijah put his hands on the arms of his chair excitedly, but the excited look quickly vanished, and he slumped back in his chair. “I’d love to come, sir, but I had in my head I was going to do some research into the two victims. I think it will be important.” He smiled smugly. “You always say I’m the best with technology, after all, right?”

I laughed. “Aye, that you are,” I replied, nodding at him approvingly for his desire to aid the case as much as possible, even if it meant missing out on field work. “Guess it’s you and me then, Begum?”

Nadia looked keen and moved quickly. “Certainly, sir!”

I turned back to Elijah. “Keep an eye on things here when we are gone, Smith, and good luck with the research. Make sure you let us know anything you find that is of importance.”

Elijah nodded respectfully. “Will do, sir! Anything that seems important I’ll write down.”

I smiled at Elijah and then went to grab my jacket. Nadia was already near the door putting her own khaki puffer coat on. When I approached her, she had the coat on and was zipping it up.

“Ready whenever you are, sir,” Nadia said.

I pulled on my jacket and gestured for her to follow me. I walked past the reception as I was putting on my jacket and, as I buttoned it up, I turned my head toward Nadia.
